Love and Marriage

why does a christian marriage need to be viewed as a covenant rather than a contract?

also how does such a covenant tie into the purpose of christian marriage?

  1. Because it's not between just two human beings, but rather a covenant with the married couple and God.
  2. because people search for ways to get out of a contract. a covenant is a solemn commitment with God as the witness. understand when you enter a marriage, you are submitting an oath to your spouse and to God. love upholds the marriage, not the other way around.
  3. Covenant=contract. No different.
  4. There is an ebb and flow to the volatile relationship. There is only a thirst for control in a contract.
  5. GOD MADE IT THAT WAY! We would have no divorces today if everyone followed the Biblical pattern of how a marriage and family life should be in the household, and it is not just Christian marriages this always been viewed as something sacred from God. it's been here since... the beggining of time (Adam/Eve)
  6. Because when you enter into a marriage it is a Covenant with God. God has ordained a marriage between a man and a woman to be blessed thur Him and His Covenant. It is a sacred promise between man, woman and God. In Christian living this is a must in order to find a peaceful relationship between man, woman and God. God will bless you and your children, but living together as boyfriend and girlfriend is a sin and God will not Bless this arrangement.
  7. As we believers are joined to the Body of Christ in a perpetual union through his sacrifice and our faith, so are those we marry bound to the Body of Christ through us (when man and woman join together they become as one flesh). This is so even in the case of marriage with unbelievers who will be sanctified by their marriage to a believing spouse. Once you are committed to Christ, divorce is as adultery and it becomes more than just physical adultery but rather also spiritual adultery as "what God has joined together let not man separate" is God's own statement concerning such things. To break this marriage bond is to break the covenant you made with Yahweh through His Son Jesus Christ as essentially you are returning to sin and living in opposition to the will of God. May the Lord bless you and keep you always.
